FREQUENTLY ASKED QUESTIONS

FOR STUDYING OVERSEAS

 1. Why choose to study in Canada?

Canada is one of the few countries whose educational systems are thoroughly comprehensive, thereby providing the highest levels of education. Accordingly, by studying in Canada, students are guaranteed to receive an excellent education. Such standards of education will provide an excellent base for future careers. As well, Canadian educational standards are widely accepted by most countries in the world, including the United States. This will benefit those students who wish to transfer to an educational institute in the United States or who want to work in the United States in the future.

In addition, according to the Canadian Immigration Act, once students have obtained a Canadian education certificate, they are allowed to work in Canada for one year before applying for Canadian immigrant status to acquire a permanent resident status. This condition is not possible in many other countries.

 2. What are the basic conditions for studying in Canada?
Students must be over 18 years of age and should be studying in their final year of high school. Students should be able to demonstrate good academic achievement. Students must have proof of having enough financial support for studying overseas.

 3. Can students apply if they are under 18 years of age?
Generally speaking, with this situation it is very difficult to acquire a visa.

 4. What is required of the family in the way of financial support?
Generally, the parents must show proof that their savings are over U.S.$60,000.

 5. Is it all right if I can provide only the certificate of bank savings?
No. This would not be acceptable. Parents must provide corresponding documents to certify that their savings are legally earned by themselves, for example, they should provide a certificate or provide a certificate letter issued by their employer, or the company account statements, etc.

 6. My parents do not have a lot of savings, however, they do own many house properties. Would this be acceptable?
Yes, however their savings should not be below USD ($) 24,000-36,000. They should be able to have proof of having at least this amount.

 7. My parents do not have much in the way of savings, however I do have relatives overseas who can support me financially. Would this be acceptable?
Yes, but you should be careful while preparing application documents. Be sure to assure the immigration officer that you are coming to Canada to study and are not intending to immigrate.

 8. Do I have to take the TOEFL test if my knowledge of English is not good?
If you are coming to study college courses or preparation courses for universities, there is no request for English levels. Upon arrival, you will need to immediately improve your English should it not be good enough. You must do this before starting the formal courses. Should you be coming to Canada to study for a degree, usually, you are asked to take a TOEFL test. However, some bachelor courses in universities are exempt from the TOEFL test.
